Job Summary:
The Coordinator, Community Programs works directly with clients, volunteers and students of the Community Programs. They work cooperatively in the program with all community programs, and report to the Manager, Community Programs to plan and implement health promoting activities (including physically active, social and meal service). They are supportive in fostering the maintenance of a client’s abilities and, where appropriate, the enhancement of those abilities. The Coordinator, Community Programs is responsible for full oversight of social, recreational and exercise programming as well as provides expertise and training on appropriate recreational, social and exercise techniques to improve the quality of life for seniors.
What you will do:
- Order and coordinate the delivery of both hot and frozen meals and provide assistance to volunteers who assist with the delivery of meals to clients.
- Liaise with kitchen staff for accuracy of meal delivery including packing of meals and meal temperature testing.
- Conduct basic food preparation, serve food items and collect program fees when running programs.
- Schedule volunteers and provide support with volunteer orientation and follow-up on volunteer reports.
- Plan and implement programming suitable for the varying abilities of the clients while fostering activation, socialization and addressing food insecurity within the community.
- Assist in the development, planning, promoting, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating of community wellness programs, which includes special events, assessing the physical, recreational, and social needs of clients, facilitating and leading exercise programs and adapting and adjusting programming to meet clients’ needs.
- Develop and implement health promotion education sessions and workshops as well as run in-person programming in an engaging fashion.
- Run in-person programming and monitor client safety.
- Keep accurate financial records according to program requirements by monitoring budgets and financial transactions in order to ensure that expenditures fall within the allotted budget.
- Compile monthly statistics according to program requirements.
- Coordinate supplies including ordering, receiving, storage, maintaining inventory, and distribution.
- Assist in the development and distribution of marketing materials.
- Administrative responsibilities including data entry, maintaining records and responding to program inquiries.
- Other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications:
- A degree/diploma in Social Service Worker, Nutrition, Recreation, Public Health or Kinesiology would be an asset, or equivalent experience.
- Experience in leading exercise and fitness classes, coordinating group activities (i.e. food markets), as well as creating and facilitating educational presentations.
- Be able physically lift, load and unload food, and push carts during pickup and delivery.
- Valid “G” drivers’ license with a clean driving record and appropriate proof of personal insurance is an asset.
- Seniors’ fitness instructor training.
- Experience working in both a group setting and on a one-to-one basis.
- Standard First Aid and CPR Certificate an asset.
- Demonstrates skills with MS Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel and Outlook.
- Experience using a client database is an asset.
